About The Dukes
The Dukes is open seven days a week serving British dishes such as traditional full English breakfast, cream tea, homemade soup, Eton mess, Cumberland sausages, Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding and our much loved British beef brisket burger with chips and homemade colesalw. We have built a reputation for hosting your celebrations in groups of 6-60 guests where we can provide buffets, canapés, nibbles, arrival drinks, free bar and everything in between. Whether they be birthdays, weddings or anniversaries our team excel in service and thrive in creating special memories for our guests. On Mondays and Wednesdays our Dukes and Duchesses represent The Dukes in the male and female darts teams. We're also well known for our delicious Sunday lunch. Sundays aren't finished there though because we sponsor Heath Football Club who play every week through the season.
Our Story So Far
Humble Beginnings
Our grade II listed Georgian thatched building was built in 1735 and converted to a public house in 1745 called 'The Duke Of Cumberland's Head'. The Duke of Cumberland had defeated the pretender to the throne Charles Edward Stuart (grandson of King James II), known as Bonnie Prince Charlie at the battle of Culloden in 1746.
The Geordie Takeover
In 2016, after several years of being a restaurant, the business was taken over by Newcastle born sisters Sarah & Jo Nelson who changed the then named 'Dukes Head' to 'The Dukes'. Their vision was to create a beautiful pub with food so delicious their guests would travel from far and wide to taste it.
Dukes On T.V
Sarah represented The Dukes on channel 4's Four In A Bed and channel 5's Hotel Inspector with Alex Polizzi. Alex helped Sarah transform the pubs interior as well as making us the talk of the town!
